Facilities

The School is located in Pyrgos, Tinos, which is the center of Marble Craftsmanship of Tinos and of all Greece. The School is housed in the former Girls’ Primary School’s building (which was built in 1832) and its adjacent buildings and areas (Law 3813/1958, Official Government Gazette A/23/19.2.1958, Article 14, Paragraph 3), as well as in other areas within Pyrgos, where the Marble Carving workshop and the students’ dining area are located.

Currently, there is an ongoing project to expand the School’s facilities, restore the existing structures, and procure the technical equipment. The project is funded by the Recovery and Resilience Fund, with the Ministry of Culture being the funding and implementing body.

The preliminary designs of the new facilities and the restoration of the older preserved buildings were made with donation from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation.

Upon completion of the project, the School will have new workshops aimed at training the young marble carvers. These buildings will have the capacity and equipment to process large marble blocks both indoors and outdoors. Additionally, there will be workshops that will equip students with further knowledge related to their field, such as sculpture, painting, architectural drafting, casting, woodshop, metalshop/foundry, art history, and other spaces such as a library, administration offices, etc.

While the building upgrade project is ongoing, the School’s operations are taking place in the following locations:

  • Office/Secretariat: At the KEP office in Pyrgos
  • Marble Carving Class: In the Marble Carving workshop of the School, near the central square of Pyrgos
